Matthew Harker Metcalf was born July 24, 2007, at 3:56am, at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC.
Inspired by the Trixie Picture of the Day.
All the camera equipment I use has since been discontinued.
Since January 2008, most of the photographs on this site have been taken with a Nikon D200 DSLR, mostly with the AF-S 18-135 DX standard kit zoom lens. I also occasionally use a Nikon 50/1.4 lens–mostly for indoor available-light shots. Most importantly, nearly all of the indoor shots are taken with the assistance of a Nikon Speedlight SB-800 flash. I bounce the light off the ceiling, which gives soft, broad, even light, with no red-eye.
Prior to January 2008, the photos were taken with a Nikon Coolpix 8400 camera, equipped with the same flash. With a very wide wide-angle, it was great for landscapes, but it couldn’t reliably focus on Matthew’s eyes indoors.
I do crop the pictures, often heavily. At present, I use GraphicConverter for nearly all my photo processing. Aside from cropping, the only photo editing I do are global changes: adjusting Levels and Curves, and sharpening.
