@Don--A friend stayed with us for a few weeks while looking for a place to live and he cycled to the Brookland Metro regularly, locking up his bike, without incident. There's a covered (but not enclosed) bike rack to the south of the bus bays, on the east side of the tracks. I don't know how long the waiting list for the bike lockers is.

Since you mention the Brookland metro, can you provide any suggestions about the possibility, and wisdom, of riding a regular bike to the Brookland station, and locking it there for the day? thanks

The Brompton child seat is called the Itchair.

I also enjoyed reading about your commute! A lot of people seem interested in multi-modal commutes these days. Here's another post about commuting by bike and public transit:

I enjoyed reading about your commute! As a father of two, with one young (4 yrs) child, I've got this advice--my daughter can sit sidesaddle on the tube of my Brompton, with one foot on a peddle and holding with one hand onto the seat post and the other hand onto the handlebar tube. I walk her to her daycare like that and she loves it. We dangle her lunchbag from the handlebars or put it in one of the Brompton bags I mount to the front of the bike. I've also heard of a child seat for the brompton--the Itce (sp?).

Glad to hear the Brompton is working out so well. Matt's bike is out of commission due to a crack in the frame.

To make getting your son to daycare easier:
Xtracycle, with the Brompton and your son in back, to the daycare, lock up the Xtracycle, Brompton to Metro...

Have you considered switching to a unicycle? The lack of folding time could save you five or six minutes each way.
