Tom Metcalf, the author of this blog, lives and works in Washington DC. He is an experimental condensed matter physicist, by trade, and is employed as such by the Federal Government. It’s no secret where he works, nor does he work on any sensitive projects, but to avoid running afoul of security regulations, he won’t mention by name his place of employment, nor write (too much) about what he does there.
Tom was raised in Sacramento, went to College at The University of Chicago, and went to graduate school at Cornell University. Although it might seem that his life has been a progression of moves east, Washington DC is, in fact, to the west of Ithaca, NY.
